I need to know, what is the "expand" button??

It's a button that I just discovered exists in WeddingPlans! I have always used it in sf_drama (which I only read very occasionally because they seem so bitter in there...but that's another story!).

Anyways, you know how the threads get compacted, and if you want to read one, you have to open it in a different tab? Some communities have the "expand" button, where you can expand a thread WITHOUT it taking you to a whole new window, it just expands it open right there on the comment page, leaving the other comments intact...so you don't have to either open it in a new tab, or click the thread, but then use the "back" button to go back to the rest of the comments...am I making any sense? I never had access to it in WP, but I noticed a couple of weeks ago that it IS in WP now, yay!!! And now I want it in SnarkyBride too!

I do, I have no idea why you don't. :/

I do, but it might be because I have a paid account. Maybe ask Lizzie how it was added to WP then get Becki to add it to SB?

Because you don't have a paid account? Sometimes communities can get paid accounts so they always have an expand option (I know that's why sf_drama almost always has one - the members randomly pay for it).

I used to have it (via a greasemonkey script) but it's not in SB any more, only in some of my other communities...hmm weird

I think someone needs to sponsor the community. I have a "plus" account, because my LJ is so old it got grandfathered into some benefits, haha - I can make polls and stuff without having paid. However, I can only "expand" in certain communities.

Okay, my suspicions are correct:

Paid communities get to expand/collapse comments. Hmm, thinking about sponsoring it.... it's a pain to open so many tabs!

I'd be willing to take turns paying for it. Maybe one of us should make a post in SB explaining our idea and seeing if anyone else is willing to take turns with us.

LOL! I will check with a mod before I post so as not to ruffle any feathers :)

I have a "plus" account too...haha. I never really knew what that meant though!

So who sponsors WP??

Nobody does. I got WP a two-month paid account for...well...two months when we did a big layout change a couple of years ago. Then the paid account expired and I've never felt the need to renew it.

What web browser do you use? Internet Explorer? Firefox? Something else? You may be able to download and add a script to your browser that'll do it for you - that's what I did, before the comment expanding was a paid account feature.

That's so weird - is it maybe because WP (or sf_drama) was created before expanding comments was a paid feature, and Snarky Bride was created more recently?

Quite possibly! Or it could be one of those features that you get when you buy a paid account, and once the paid account expires, the feature doesn't disappear. I know there are a couple of LJ enhancements that work that way (like style choice - if you customize it with a paid account, when it reverts back to a basic account, the style remains).

A plus account means you can add more userpics, subscribe to more comments (I've never done that, though), and get a few text message alerts, haha.

I don't know who sponsors WP - could be a mod, or could be anyone! There might be a way to find out, but I don't know how :( You can also give a gift of an upgrade anonymously.

my journal is like three years older than yours...what kind of benefits am i grandfathered into?

Weirdly enough, it looks like you have a basic account, and I have a plus account, even though I never paid for anything. Now LJ is confusing me greatly.

Hmm. If I remember correctly, one time I was prompted (years ago) to upgrade to the "plus" account for free. Maybe Rachel was too, and she just declined.

I'd definitely take turns with some people paying for it. Wonder if anyone else in SB would be interested.

If you buy the account for yourself, you get expand buttons everywhere :P

Hahaha I guess that would make more sense, no?

Are you paid?

Currently, yes! A friend gifted me a 1 year paid account last Christmas & now I don't know what I'll do when my notes & expand buttons disappear this Christmas (there's other fun things, but expand & notes is what I use most)! I may have to fork out for one, LOL!
